The New Zealand Census information is used by infrastructure management professionals in New Zealand to assist with the analysis of future demand and predicting overall changes in demand.
The last census data available is 2006, with the scheduled 2011 Census abandoned as a result of the Christchurch Earthquakes.
In March 2013 the New Zealand Census was undertaken and the really good news is that the usually resident population data for Regional and Territorial Authority areas will be available on 15th October 2013.
This is a fantastic effort by Statistics New Zealand and will provide very timely information for the updating of territorial authority Asset Management Plans in 2014.
When updating growth information in your Asset Management Plans don’t forget to consider the major demographic changes forecast.
