For the sixth year in a row, Waugh Infrastructure Management has received carbonzero certification from Toitū Envirocare.
While we have long had a commitment to sustainability in our work and business choices, the Toitū carbonzero programme has helped us to closely monitor our organisation’s carbon footprint and create concrete plans to reduce our emissions.
As a consultancy organisation, business travel consistently ranks as our top carbon emission source. To maintain our high level of client collaboration while still reducing our carbon footprint, we began replacing our company car fleet with hybrid and electric vehicles a few years ago.
Our car fleet now consists entirely of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles and battery electric vehicles.
This shift helps represent how our overall environmental programme has progressed throughout our time as a Toitū member – change accomplished through intentional, long-term planning and short-term execution.
When our company needs to replace a vehicle, we think closely about how the new car will help progress our climate commitments, not just our business interests. While this commitment carries a higher financial commitment, we feel it is imperative to preserve the planet.
On a day-to-day basis, our commitment to the carbonzero programme entails detailed tracking of our energy consumption. Fortunately, Toitū has designed an online tracking system that processes our existing company consumption data (e.g., electricity use, flight distances, petrol receipts, etc.) and computes our total usage.
This system, and the support Toitū provides in using it, enables us to carefully monitor and track our energy usage without disrupting our core business processes.
We also appreciate the feedback and support we receive from our Toitū auditor each year.
The expertise these skilful professionals provide allows us to take a closer look at our practices and ways we can further build sustainability into our business model.
As we mark our sixth year as a Toitū carbonzero member, we here at Waugh celebrate our recertification and commit to an even greener future.
