During his Chicago visit in September, Ross Waugh had the opportunity to visit with the buried asset management team led by Professor Tom Iseley and lecture at Purdue University in Indiana.
Purdue University is one of the top public Universities in the USA and has a robust civil engineering programme.
Ross was interested to find out that Purdue also has a solid aeronautical and aerospace engineering programme, with many current and former US astronauts, including Neil Armstrong, being graduates.
He spent three days with the Purdue buried asset management team. During that time, he lectured in a postgraduate asset management class.
It was great to learn that Purdue University is partnering with the State of Indiana to develop a Centre of Excellence for Water Asset Management, shares Ross.
Ross enjoyed discussions with the Purdue team regarding this ongoing project and relaying what has worked well in New Zealand, particularly the successes of Te Ringa Maimoa, Āpōpō and Infrastructure Decision Support NZ (IDS NZ)
Appreciating the Purdue University grounds, Ross said, “Purdue has an extensive ‘park-like’ campus, and it was a pleasure to walk around the campus on several occasions and enjoy the spaces that have been established.”
Ross and the Waugh Infrastructure Management Limited team are looking forward to continued collaboration with Purdue University and BAMI-I (Buried Assets Management Institute-International)
Below are some photos of the Purdue University campus that Ross took.
