Hugh Blake-Manson, Professor Rachel Davidson (University of Delaware), and Nicci Wood (Water New Zealand) presented on Buried Infrastructure in Seismically Active Regions: Beyond Business as Usual at Te Hiranga Rū QuakeCoRE’s annual meeting on September 5th.
You can browse Hugh’s presentation below.
Hugh’s presentation is part of the QuakeCoRE Annual Meeting held in Napier from 3 to 5 September 2024. Roger Fairclough of Neo Leaf Global chaired the plenary.
Hugh focused on networked and ‘self-supply’ 3 Waters buried assets’ exposure to seismic hazards. He challenged everyone to apply their knowledge to improve urban and rural communities.
While the water sector is still facing challenging times, there are some bright lights – the potential for one National Engineering Design Code from 2025 is exciting and should improve asset management in future generations.
QuakeCoRE is a Centre of Research Excellence (CoRE) that the New Zealand government, through the Tertiary Education Commission, funds. Its mission is to “transform the earthquake resilience of communities and society through innovative world-class research, education of the next generation, and deep national and international collaborations using Aotearoa, New Zealand, as a natural earthquake laboratory.”
